FAWDalianNorthServiceStationINTERVIEWDATE:March6,2000INTERVIEWERNAME:BillHeIntervieweeNameMr.LiPuxiangPositionManagerCompanyandAddressDalian,LiaoningTelephone/Fax0411-6511941BackgroundFAWDalianNorthServiceStation(NorthStation)wasfoundedinOctober1999.ItwasDacaiServiceCenter.Bychangingthename,theparentcompanyofNorthStation(sameparentcompanyasDacai)builta“Four-in-One”dealership.Thereare9458FAWvehicles(allkinds)and3405SAWvehiclesinDalianbytheendof1999.NorthStation’spartssalesrevenuewasRMB9.4millionin1998andRMB10.8millionin1999.NorthStationclaimsthattheirtechnicalexpertise,campus,locationaresuperiorthananotherFAWservicestationinDalian.(Thisistrueaccordingtomyobservation)Eventhoughthisisanewlyauthorisedservicestation,numberoftruckcameforservicehasbeenincreasedsignificantlyfromthebeginningofthisyear.Theirtotalservicerevenue(excludingFAWpaidservice”wasRMB760,000in1999.NorthStationhas48servicetechnicians.Thecompensationofthetechniciansincludesbasesalaryandbonus.Bonusareperformancebasedandcanbezeroorhigherthanthebasesalary.Onaverage,atechnician’stotalincomeisRMB1000permonth.ThissalaryisverycompetitiveinthisindustryinDalian.NorthServiceStationchargeshigherpriceandonlyuseoriginalparts.Theybelieveitisthequality,nottheprice,oftheservice,makesadifference.Theymetmanycustomersfromotherprovincescamehereforservicebecauseoftheirreputation.Theybelieveinthelongrun,itisthepremierservicestationlikethemselves,notthe“streetservicestation”,cansavemoneyandtimeforthecustomers.NorthServiceStationofferswarranteetoitsservices.SinceNorthStation’sparentcompanyisthepowertrainmanufacturerofJieFangtruck,ithasexpertisetoservethemostcomplicatedrequirementfromthecustomers.KeyIssues1FAWisveryslowinsupplyingthepartsofitsnewmodels.AlotoftimescustomerscameinforservicewithanewmodelandtheNorthStationdidnothaveparts.Thisisacommonproblemalsomentionedbyotherdealers/servicestationsduringthisinterviewprocess.ConclusionNorthServiceStationisapremierservicestation.ItisphysicallyatthesamelocationofDacai.Therefore,Dacaiisa“Four-in-One”dealerinDalian.2
